7 Day: Silk Road Journey: Osh – Bishkek

The Ultimate Silk Road Journey This 7-day expedition is a breathtaking transition through the soul of Kyrgyzstan. Starting from the Fergana Valley and the ancient Silk Road hub of Osh, we travel north through the heart of the Tian Shan mountains to the capital city of Bishkek. This route offers the perfect “best of” experience, combining UNESCO world heritage, the world’s largest walnut forests, and the vast, high-altitude pastures where nomadic traditions are still the way of life.

Culture, History, and “Innocent” Nature Experience the contrast of Kyrgyzstan: from the 11th-century minarets of Özgön to the pristine turquoise waters of the Toktogul Reservoir. You will hike through the ancient forests of Arslanbob, sleep in traditional yurt camps beneath the stars in Suusamyr, and conquer the high-altitude Too-Ashuu Pass. The banks and exchanges are super strict in exchanging the foreign currency in Kyrgyzstan. Recently, cases of counterfeit 10, 20, and 50 USD banknotes have increased. Because of this, banks and exchange offices no longer accept these denominations. It would be great if you provide with 100 banknotes usd more in Kyrgyzstan side. Additionally, euros are not accepted due to recent fluctuations in the exchange rate. For your convenience, we strongly recommend bringing 100 USD bills (new design and issued in 2013 and in good condition without even any tiny stamps, even tiny torns, any dark spots and old banknotes) for exchange during your trip. Please find the attached photos of samples of the US banknotes.

  • Electrical sockets in Kyrgyzstan are like this. Please take a special plugs if you use Amercan style one.
  • Please take a USB charger for such auto charger (see a pic below) to charge your phone. Our drivers do not have USB for Iphones, only for Samsung.
  • Safety:

Our country (other Central Asian countries as well) is totally safe. Our people are welcoming and easy-going. If locals will come to you to talk, that’s because they are curious or want to speak with you in English. The main point is try not to leave your things, keep your valuable things very well and inside of your tents during the trekking.

  • Food:

Kyrgyz cuisine includes mostly beef, any type of noodles. We love black tea and drink 3 times a day. If you want coffee, just ask and the host makes you cups of coffee. It is certainly possible to prepare meals for vegetarians.

  • Roads:

Roads are in a bad condition either during highway, or in mountainous areas, so please ready for it.

  • Toilets:

We have problems with the toilets during the trip, there are in a bad condition. Moslty they are simple wooden constructions with the holes or toilets like in the picture. We are trying to find good Western toilets on the way, but in some territories, we do not have it.
